There is an incredible amount of snow in the Lötschental. See the pictures. In the valley about 1.5m, on Lauchernalp well over 2m and on the Hockenhorn probably over 5m in places. The chairs are almost covered in snow :-)

It rained high up on Saturday. On the Gandegg, however, the snow was perfect. Slightly pressed by the wind, but not disturbing. The lowest part of the Gandegg chairlift was increasingly hard and frozen. From 3000m to approx. 2300 m above sea level it was fantastic. Unfortunately, however, the fog continued to rise as the day progressed. However, the already strong sun should turn the snow into hardpack over the course of the week.

Risks

Considerable. We were able to observe several snowboards in the area, always triggered by skiers. I myself also triggered a smaller board in a steep couloir, which went down below me. Nothing happened, but caution was definitely the order of the day. The situation will stabilize over the course of the week.

Overall impression

4 von 5 Sterne

Top powder conditions for freeriding and speed flying. At the beginning there was still a strong E-wind (approx. 40km), which stopped completely from one minute to the next at around 10am.
Unfortunately, our plan to paraglide from the Hockenhorn to Kandersteg in the evening didn't work out. Contrary to forecasts, the fog thickened and rose to 3000m on the north side.

Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
