Snow condition
The whole Lötschental is full of snow from start to finish! There's been 20 cm in the valley since last night and there's now an estimated 1 meter base at the top. The valley run isn't open yet, but the forest looks good ;) - skiable from the next snowfall, I think.
Snow quality
There is enough base from last week. A fresh 20-30 cm has fallen on it, without the influence of wind. Powdery at the top, as you would dream of - it's getting heavy at the bottom, but not muddy by a long shot
Risks
It has an official 3 today - and that's justified. We observe a board crack directly below the rocks, where condensation has probably seeped under the snow cover. However, it was caused by a single skier and not a big one. It warms up considerably by midday and the top 20 cm of snow comes loose with the odd turn.
Overall impression
We assumed that we would be skiing without visibility - but then we found up to 30 cm of fresh snow and were able to inspect all the lines quite clearly!
From 2500m it quickly became quite difficult, but the morning hours were literally 'gold in our mouths'. The next time it snows, the Lötschental will certainly be even more feasible, because then all the rocks will really be covered...
