Snow condition
End of January and another restart. From about 1400 m there were around 25 cm. In the lee I would say >30 cm. Significantly more than expected. For the most part, these amounts are back on bare ground. Only where there was still a layer of old snow can you let it go. Most of the time we were on the lee side. The wind has pretty much cleared out exposed areas again. Stone skis are still very advisable. However, contact with the enemy was limited today.
Snow quality
Downwind, the snow was deep and still fluffy. Snow in your face with almost every turn. On the way to the car (north-west side) you could feel the drifting snow. But it was still really good to ski there too.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: medium
Altitude: 1500 m – 1700 m
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
The wind was present the whole day and was blowing snow. You should keep an eye on the drift snow near the ridge at the entrances. Cornices are very pronounced.
Overall impression
A surprisingly good afternoon and a long lunch break. In the short time we had, we got a lot more snow than expected, and in very good quality. Luckily there were hardly any people out and we were able to ski our lines without stress. Unfortunately, it will be another short winter pleasure when the days get warmer again.
