Snow condition
Around 20 cm have been added since yesterday lunchtime. With Sunday and settling, that makes around 30 cm+. The total amount tends to be difficult to estimate, even with the strong winds of the last few days. The lines that usually go can now be skied without the handbrake with a clear conscience. In general, the snow situation is very inhomogeneous. Areas exposed to the wind are more or less bare and there is plenty of snow in the lee and sheltered corners. Enemy contact is still to be expected in wind corridors. We are close to 3 stars. However, the current snow cover is still below average and temperatures are rising tonight and tomorrow.
Snow quality
Beautiful, fine, fast powder snow. In the lee and sheltered corners it was very fine today!
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: strong
Above: 1100 m
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Critical situation. Drift snow can be found everywhere. Especially the entrances to the lee are quite loaded with drift snow and there are also sporty cornices. This was very clear to see today with good visibility in the morning. We were passive and skirted steeper entrances or climbed up from below until the terrain became steeper and more open. On the north side, at an altitude of around 1500 m - 1600 m, we found angular crystals under the fresh snow. Sleet was also to be found from time to time.
Overall impression
Fine day at the homespot! Now we have a snow base and the possibilities are increasing. Hopefully the foehn and the higher snowfall limits won't cause too much damage tomorrow.
