Exposition
Snow condition
With the realization from yesterday that there is now a base layer in all exposures, we started from the valley today. At 800 m, there is a snow cover on the north side with a thickness of around 20 cm to 25 cm. The snow depth rises steadily with increasing altitude. It was possible to ascend and descend via a forest path without any problems. In recent years, this has looked much worse in the height of winter than it does today in April. Depending on the temperatures, a north-facing valley start will still be possible for a while. Overnight there was another 5 cm to 10 cm of fresh snow, depending on the altitude.
Snow quality
Fine, light powder snow without the influence of wind! Today the sun came through every now and then (always on the ascent, but fog on the descent) and at the end of the tour it was present for a longer period of time. The snow quality will be significantly worse from tomorrow.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
A very relaxed day of touring. We didn't notice any danger spots such as drift snow packs on our playground today. The gliding snow activity will start as the temperature rises.
Overall impression
Another really fine day of touring in the best snow. In keeping with April, the weather was at its best today, with sunshine, snowfall and fog in constant alternation. However, this couldn't spoil what was probably our last powder day of the season on our doorstep :).
