Snow report Montafon, 01/08/2015
Above 2,000 m - 2,400 m, there is still a local powdery surface of approx. 10-20 cm in the Montafon. Further up, the influence of the wind becomes increasingly clear. Unfortunately, everything will change again unfavorably with the storm.

Snow condition
Above 2,000 m it's 2 stars for me. Below that, it tends to be 1-0 star. Locally > 2,000 m it is a very homogeneous layer of about 50-100 cm. Further up, the wind has blown away a lot. But it's still well below average in the Montafon.
Snow quality
At altitudes of 2,000 - 2,400 m, fine powder snow. Below this, the snow cover becomes increasingly unpleasant.
Risks
Tricky. Many spontaneous avalanches at an altitude of approx. 2,500 m and higher. Noticeably many on the east-southeast side. The last heavy snowfall gave us a pronounced weak layer. A clearly recognizable angular layer that can easily be disturbed if the snow cover is too thin. On top of this, there is bound snow and, locally at the very top, a fine layer of powder snow. Many danger spots are also covered in snow. On a plateau at an altitude of approx. 2,400 m, the snow cover has settled so massively as if a lorry was unloading a large load.
Overall impression
There are a few options for defensive route selection, but the choice is very limited. Unfortunately, the snow line is expected to rise and fall with storms over the next few days, which will have an unfavorable effect.
