Snow report Montafon, 01/08/2016
The snow conditions in the variant area are very poor here. There are many dangers lurking, such as stones, holes, streams and other stuff. Unfortunately it rained the night before down to about 1,800 m. The SF limit was around 1,600 m during the day

Snow condition
Very thin for this time of year. A few snowfalls are needed for relaxed off-piste skiing. A snow cover worth mentioning starts at around 1,500 m and then varies according to exposure and altitude. Above the tree line, there are also drifts from the wind.
Snow quality
At the beginning of the day, the snow above 2,000 m was still powdery. By lunchtime, it had become a sticky mass well above 2,000 m. Nevertheless, it was quite easy to ride. When it gets colder, it gets bumpy.
Risks
According to the LLB, a 3 above 2,200 m and a 2 below. Many fresh drifts can be seen above the tree line. The thickness of the snow cover varies greatly here (from 0 to over 1 m). There are no particular signs below this, but the snow cover is soaked here. The snow is strongly bound. However, the warm temperatures favor the settling.
Overall impression
A few nice turns can be made with careful selection of the variant descents. But only to a very limited extent. In general, the majority of the possible variants are unrideable. There are simply too many dangers lurking. Next week there should be a significant change in the weather. Unfortunately, there should also be a lot of wind.
