Silvretta: powder, wind/melt crust, hard snow, slush

Overall impression
Snow condition
As expected, there is a lot of snow in the Silvretta region and the snow conditions are excellent for all tours. Towards spring, some fine lines could be possible this year.
Snow quality
The combination of strong wind / foehn, warm temperatures and sunshine did a great job in the Silvretta. The tour to the Seespitz really had it all: powder, wind slush, melt slush, slush. In north-facing and wind-protected areas there was still powder, otherwise there was a large area of snow surface affected by the wind at all altitudes and exposures. South-facing exposures have a melt crust at all altitudes. In the early afternoon, the snow cover was wet and slushy up to around 2,100 m.
Risks
Heavy, extensive and widespread drifting in the past few days and again today due to the foehn. Old and fresh accumulations of drift snow are clearly visible and are a warning to be cautious when choosing a tour.
Overall impression
A brilliant amount of snow in the Silvretta and makes me want to go on more tours this season. Today, on the one hand, restraint was the order of the day due to heavy drifting and diffuse visibility. On the other hand, our skiing technique was put to the test to cope with the constant change of powder, slab powder, wind slush, melt slush and slush.
