Ski tour from Gargellen with a short visit to Switzerland
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Significantly worse than on the Arlberg but absolutely fine in the high altitudes. The last 200 m before Gargellen Dorf is very tight in the forest. You should not start below 1400.
Snow quality
Set cold powder but very good to ski. On the sunny side already capped at all altitudes. On the shaded side, however, powder can be skied down to the valley.
Risks
In the morning it was still sunny, so you could see wind vanes on every ridge. In general, however, the snow settled well. It was my only tour in the area this year, so I can only assess it superficially. However, heavily blown-in areas were clearly visible and the snow cover made a fairly stable impression. There was often a load-bearing layer of harsh snow as a base for the powder without being built up underneath. On the Swiss side it sometimes rained up to 1800 before the snowfall. A 3er was issued from 2000 onwards, which fits quite well.
Overall impression
Unfortunately, the weather didn't hold out, but it will have been the same for several people today. Still a great day! There were already a lot of tracks around Eggberg in St. Antönien.
