Snow report Montafon, 02/13/2016
Nice off-piste day in the Montafon. There was nothing more to get, but it was always a great descent in the rough terrain.

Overall impression
Snow condition
Below 1,000 m it is unfortunately very poor. Downhill runs are only possible with a walk (longer or shorter depending on exposure). From the middle altitudes (approx. >1,400 m) the snow conditions are good. However, at high altitudes (approx. >2,000 m), the wind has created a very variable snow cover. Here, exposed areas and ridges are generally free of snow. There are many transitions from a little to a lot of snow.
Snow quality
In wind-protected areas above 1,600 m up to the tree line, it was fine-grained powder (mainly on the shaded side). On the sunny side there was mostly a thin layer of melted slush and above the tree line a pronounced layer of windswept slush (SW). But despite all these influences, the snow was good to ski on.
Risks
Tricky. Above the tree line, there are clear signs of wind and very large fanfolds. The wind is a constant companion in this region alongside the poor old snow foundation.
Overall impression
A good day of variations in the Montafon. All standard variants are completely tracked but still easy to ski. Surprisingly, extremely steep terrain with little traffic was consistently avoided.
