Snow report Montafon, 02/14/2015

Cat touring? Vorarlberg is once again trying to play a pioneering role ;-) We were able to enjoy a 5 km ride on the Pistenbully today.

Unfortunately very thin for this time of year. As soon as it is warm for a few days, the snow cover on the south side is almost completely covered (up to approx. 1400 m). Streams are still not frozen and that at over 1800 m. Bushes and shrubs are still in the way. Above approx. 1800 m, and only on the shaded side, it's 2 stars for me. But from 2,200 the wind has blown away a lot again.

On the shaded side and where the sun does not yet reach due to the low altitude - fine set powder. This can be found at approx. 2,400 m and also at approx. 1,000 m. Where the sun has a longer effect, it is fractured harsch - stable or crumbly. Otherwise you will also find light to deep slush further down. All in all, these are already typical spring conditions ...

Risks

There may still be critical areas in the high mountains, otherwise rather relaxed. Pay attention to the time of day. At about 1500 m south it was already very wet at 12:00 noon. Further down, the skis were already sticking unpleasantly ...

Nice day and very good weather conditions due to the foehn. At around 2400 m the wind was unpleasant. The next few days are sure to be good touring days and in sun-protected areas above 1500 m you can still find soft snow. And with the right timing, there may be one or two firn descents.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
