Snow report Montafon, 02/19/2016
Another beautiful day of variations in the Montafon with much better conditions than expected. From midday there was an additional load of fresh snow. With the arrival of the warm front and the wind, everything will change again ...

Snow condition
It's nice and green in the valley! Above 1,800 m, the snow conditions are better. The last fresh snowfalls came with less wind but still strong enough for new drifts. In general, the snow cover above the tree line is very variable. Troughs and gullies are well filled and easy to ski. Ridges and exposed areas are mostly free of snow and with nasty wind slush.
Snow quality
About 5-10 cm fell overnight (without wind) and then during the day another 5-10 cm with moderate wind on top! If you make good use of the terrain - i.e. areas that have been blown in or areas and hollows protected from the wind, then very fine long descents are possible. On the sunny side and in places exposed to the wind, there is always a layer of harsh snow ... either slightly covered or free. The snow is predominantly soft, even in rugged terrain.
Risks
The last few days have favored subsidence. Caution is still required on ridges and behind exposed areas. The fresh snow that fell during the day immediately picked up speed in the very steep terrain. In general, it was relaxed in the off-piste terrain today. With the warm front and the fresh snow, things could get tricky tomorrow.
Overall impression
A very relaxed day of variations that clearly exceeded our expectations. To our astonishment, we were still able to ski many turns in untracked terrain. Unfortunately, there was a lack of snow in the lower/middle areas for descents down into the valley.
