Powder & Bluebird im Nordsektor
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Still excellent in this corner. It is possible to ski down to the valley floor without any problems. Much less so on the south side and not nearly as good. Many terrain irregularities have been greatly reduced this winter due to the snow conditions.
Snow quality
We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality. I wouldn't have thought that the snow would be consistently fine and powdery from the mountain to the valley. The first 400 meters were awesome! As we got closer to the valley, the hard crust became more and more noticeable, but it always held up.
Risks
Clear signs of wind above the tree line. The drift snow is very brittle on the surface. Approx. 20 cm are only very weakly bonded. Transitions from a little to a lot of snow are critical with increasing altitude. Slopes must be assessed very individually.
Overall impression
After arriving in a traffic jam, expectations were low as we were only able to start an alternative tour very late. The decision was the right one. Ascent in the sun and descent in powder and first tracks. Everyone had a big grin at the end. We didn't expect a tour like this in high season.
