Gargellen: Finally fresh snow, finally top conditions for something steep

Snow condition
Still plenty of snow and ideal touring conditions from Gargellen. South and west-facing slopes are starting to snow out quite high up.
Snow quality
In the Montafon there was an average of 10 cm of cold fresh snow overnight; more in the north, less in the south; and increasing with altitude. In the Gargellen/Rotbühelspitze area above approx. 2,100 m it was closer to 20 cm. Fresh snow fell without wind, cold and great to ski. Fresh snow is mostly on a hard base, but on the north side there is often a soft layer of old snow underneath, above 2,200 m.
Risks
Basically very stable conditions and at the moment almost ideal conditions for steep northern flanks, where the fresh snow lies on a softer base. From midday today, an icy westerly wind came up, which led directly to drifts in the ridge area and behind the ridge. These fresh accumulations of drift snow were only slightly thick today and very easy to recognize. The risk of falling is probably higher. As usual, wet snow slides from sunny steep slopes and rocky areas. As long as you stay away from them and keep an eye on the fresh snow packs, nothing stands in the way of fun.
Overall impression
Absolutely brilliant ski touring conditions: fresh, cold, mostly windless fresh snow, very often on relatively soft ground on the north side, low avalanche risk (if you keep your eyes open and think ahead). Not so ideal in the freeride terrain of the Silvretta-Montafon: a hard base under the fresh snow and of course the old tracks are rattling through here and there.
5* if there had been 5-10 cm more.
