Unfortunately, the heatwave of the last few weeks has already caused a lot of snow to disappear. Nothing is possible off-piste down to the valley. But above 1800m you can still enjoy some very good off-piste skiing.
Snow quality
As we were on tour, we still had some untracked snow. However, this became quite damp and firm over the course of the day. We noticed this on all the slopes. However, with enough speed, the snow was a lot of fun. If it suddenly gets cold now, that could mean a decent lid tomorrow
Risks
We felt safe in all exposures. Only the old slide and the resulting cracks and chunks of ice should be noted, as these are quite common.
Overall impression
Despite the sometimes diffuse weather, we had a lot of fun on the Hochjoch. You just have to choose tours and slopes that provide variety even in such conditions.
