Snow condition

4 von 5 Sterne

Still top snow conditions in the Gargellen - Sulzfluh - Latschau area, downhill skiing still possible without interruption right up to the end of the toboggan run. Only in exposed areas and on the ridges is there little to no snow, as the strong wind has blown everything away.

Snow quality

3 von 5 Sterne

Overnight there was about 10 cm of fresh snow in the Gargellen / Sulzfluh area, which was also blown away in all exposed areas. In wind-protected and north-facing areas, however, there was really good powder or an alternation of soft wind crust and powder.

Risks

Predominantly stable and good conditions, according to the situation report. However, caution and restraint in ridge locations, behind ridges and hollows as well as in blown-in areas. Strong winds (south to west) with squalls during the day today, leading very quickly to the formation of drift snow packs in the leeward area. This drift snow is very easy to trigger as a snow slab (see photo), but it is not very thick and very easy to recognize. Today we were able to trigger several small superficial snow slabs behind ridges and in hollows. Especially below about 1,500-1,600 m, these packs lie on a hard layer of harsh snow. With the fresh snow, these danger spots will be hidden.

Overall impression

Very fine and beautifully skiable conditions on the north side: an alternation of powder and soft wind crust. In ridge areas and exposed areas, everything is hopelessly blown away and destroyed by the wind.
