Snow report Montafon, 03/18/2016
Perfekte Tourenbedingungen im Montafon. Nordseitig gibt es noch Pulver und sonnseitig kann man Firnabfahrten genießen. Dementsprechend viele Touren-Wintersportler sind in den Bergen unterwegs.

Snow condition
We have agreed on 3 stars. Descents up to around 1,000 m are still possible on the shaded side and I would estimate 1,400 m on the south side. However, the snow thickness is below average for this time of year in many places and is now being quickly destroyed by the increasing power of the sun. In general, the snow is disappearing very quickly everywhere.
Snow quality
The choice today was once again varied: Sulz, Bruch(wind-)harsch, set powder, Schmelzharsch, ... Now timing and local knowledge are required again.
Risks
Generally favorable conditions prevail. Avalanche activity is increasingly subject to the diurnal cycle. Many base avalanches have already occurred from E-S-W. In the northern sectors, some old snow slabs can be seen above 2,000 m. We have also seen a very powerful (older) snow slab at approx. 2,600 m.
Overall impression
A beautiful day in the mountains with like-minded people. The temperatures and snow conditions are perfect for extended tours. Lots of steep and extremely steep slopes have already been groomed and classic destinations bombed. However, some rewarding firn descents are still possible.
