Snow report Montafon, 03/27/2016
Another 5-10 cm of fresh snow overnight on a soft layer of snow on the north side. It was extremely stormy near the ridge and a lot of fresh snow was heavily transported.

It's spring now and the snow cover is getting thinner and thinner. On the shady side, it's okay up to about 1200 m. Here it can go on longer without any problems. But on the sunny side it looks very thin up to well over 2000m. Descents up to 1000 m are still barely possible on the shaded side in open areas. Snow-free on the sunny side from about 1500 m.
Snow quality
Cold, wind-influenced powder through to heavy (but easily skiable) fresh snow. No crust or other types of hard snow.
Risks
Due to the small amount of fresh snow, no thick snow packs were able to form. Close to the ridge in extremely steep terrain, everything was easy to release. Smaller self-releases could also be seen. Typical wind signs were visible on many slopes. From around 1,600 m, the snowpack was soaked under the fresh snow. The avalanche situation is again subject to the daily cycle.
Overall impression
It was a great day for the end of March. With the forecast warming, perhaps a few more firn runs will be possible.
