Snow report Montafon, 04/16/2016
Ski tour in the Silvretta (approx. 3000m-2000m). The thin snow cover is melting rapidly. The snow quality is more reminiscent of summer. Tours can still be started with skis.

Snow condition
Very little. Not to be expected with the bad winter. Snow on the south side up to well over 2,000 m. On the shaded side, too, the snow is melting very quickly. A closed snow cover can be found over approx. 2,200 m on the shaded side.
Snow quality
It was a great mix again today. From top to bottom. Settled powder, wind-pressed powder, broken harsch, fine firn and deep sulz.
Risks
Avalanche activity is subject to the diurnal cycle (where there is still snow) At 2,000 m, the snow was already slushy in the morning. Many areas are unloaded and during the day I only saw fresh loose snow slides. I noticed an old base avalanche (southwest slope) at about 2,800 m.
Overall impression
There was plenty of sunshine, but unfortunately the wind was stormier and therefore more unpleasant than forecast. Fortunately, most of the clouds stayed on the south side. It's always beautiful here, even if the (snow) conditions could be better.
