Snow report Montafon, 12/07/2016
The beautiful fall weather continues ... The natural snow is getting less and less every day. With a lot of effort and risk, one or two turns can be skied off-piste. It is and remains very modest ...

Overall impression
Snow condition
From approx. 2,200 m there is a closed snow cover. But there is hardly more than 40 cm. Of course, this is far too little for the high mountains.
Snow quality
On the shaded side and areas with little wind influence are still powdery. Otherwise it is very hard where there is still snow. On the piste, the snow became very spring-like from midday in sunny spots
Risks
Still widely favorable. Above 2,200 m there is enough snow for burial. The risk of falling and injury from stones or uneven terrain (e.g. streams) is still very high. I checked the snow depth at approx. 2,400 m exposure SW with a terrain inclination of approx. 24°. You can see that the top 5 cm are soft, followed by a hard layer (approx. 1 cm) and below that it becomes soft again with several very thin hard layers. All in all, the snow cover has clearly been transformed to build up.
Overall impression
There's still nothing to be had off-piste. That's why riding is limited to the artificial snow slopes. With so few people, this is also fun. Unfortunately, the forecasts are very sobering. From today's perspective, it will continue like this for some time ...
