Gargellen - Altschnee in den Nordhängen
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Nothing, even less than in the other regions in the Montafon. Even the very flat and easy routes can only be walked up, a descent is hardly/not possible.
Snow quality
Everything is there, as it has been for the last few weeks. But you can't rely on the exposure, as the wind is largely responsible for the condition. Some of the north-facing cirques, where the sun can't reach, are covered in snow with wind tracks. 2m next to it is soft snow again.
Risks
I'm writing this update from Gargellen mainly because the snow on the north-facing slopes has changed completely down to the ground. In some places there are 20-30cm thick layers of transformed snow at around 2200-2400m below the Gargellen heads. It crumbles like sugar, the last time I saw something like this was in the old snow winter a few years ago. I haven't noticed anything similar in the Nova/Hochjoch. The process was nowhere near as advanced there.
Overall impression
Hope for an improvement in the snow conditions this week. Skiing is hardly feasible like this, if you want to do some touring, you walk up and ski down where the snow collects. But it definitely doesn't make sense, it's just nicer than sharing the slopes with Herbert, Gundula and their 3 grandchildren.
Achja, the picture upload is unfortunately not working and is currently hanging up for me. (Android and Chrome)
The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.
Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
