Weihnachtstauwetter im Hochgebirge
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
The snow conditions on the shady side still allow descents down to the valley (approx. 700 m) on forest paths. On the sunny side, the closed snow cover starts at approx. 800-900m. Above 1500 m there is a good base. Further ascending towards the top. It looks like last year at the beginning of March.
Snow quality
Below 1,500 m, it is hard in all exposures. Above that, the powder is well preserved on the north side. With knowledge and the right exposures, something is possible. But due to the thaw up to well above 2000 m, the (powder) possibilities are reduced.
Risks
The biggest problem is the sliding snow avalanches. Avoid the usual avalanche paths. Some of the avalanches are in the high mountains and thunder far down. Due to the warmth, the snow cover generally continues to settle. Transitions from a little to a lot of snow could still be dangerous.
Overall impression
Due to the masses, everything near the ski area has been dug up. There is still little to hardly any tracked terrain for touring. At 2000m it was very spring-like today and you could see some people sitting around in T-shirts or wearing shorts while hiking with snowshoes ;-)
The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.
Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
