Exposition
Snow condition
After the huge amounts of fresh snow, very good snow conditions on the glaciers for high-altitude ski tours. Glacier well snow-covered, even steeper descents, e.g. Pollux west flank possible. North faces unfortunately often still bare despite snowfall. Descents in the terrain on the north side down to approx. 1800 possible.
Snow quality
Above 3,000 m north-facing powder, at altitudes > approx. 3,800 m powdery in all exposures with light wind influence. Typical for the season, firn and slush during the course of the day.
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Daytime warming, fresh drift snow near the crest in summit areas at altitude
Overall impression
Currently top high-altitude touring conditions in the Aosta Valley and around Monte Rosa. Powdery on the north side, only slight wind influence, firn on the south side and fine slush further down. Very good, easy conditions on the ridge (normal route) to Pollux - good footing snow, no ice, dry rock.
