Snow report Monte Rosa / Zermatt, 01/17/2014
Ski tour from the Moosalp to the Augstbordhorn - poor visibility and too little snow!

Snow condition
There is still a good half meter of snow missing... Although there has been around 50 cm of fresh snow from an altitude of 2000 m in the last few days, the top layer is the finest powder, but unfortunately a solid base is still missing. Stone contact was unavoidable and the boards had to suffer quite a bit during the action.
Snow quality
The top layer of fresh snow is great, but unfortunately it doesn't help much if you kiss the rock on every second turn.
Risks
2/5: No departures were observed.
Overall impression
The poor snow conditions didn't exactly make for a successful tour. What's more, it was completely foggy on the descent, so you had to reorient yourself every 15 meters. It's about time that a proper blanket of snow built up!
