Snow condition
Meanwhile, the carpet pad in both spots is average. Stone contact is rare.
Snow quality
In Grimentz, we found fluffy powder on the north-eastern exposures up to 1800m well into the afternoon. On the western slope from Corne de Sorebois to Lac de Moiry, the fresh snow layer (15cm) was compacted and the base was partly hard. On the Lauchernalp, the ridges have been blown much more clear and western exposures have a cap below 2200m.
Risks
According to the LLB, warning level 3, which in my opinion is justified. In Grimentz, we saw a few medium-sized slides near the ski area yesterday. Today on the Lauchernalp, several slides went down after the sunlight made the snow heavier. Wind drifts were much more noticeable on Lauchernalp in comparison. The south-westerly wind of the last few days moved a lot.
Overall impression
I'm wavering between 3 and 4 stars, as there were many good slopes yesterday and today. The absolute highlights in Grimentz will probably remain off-limits for the whole season due to the weak point in layers of old snow close to the ground (see LLB).
