Snow report Monte Rosa / Zermatt, 12/03/2014
Netter Saisonstart mit schön präparierten Pisten, etwas Powder oberhalb von etwa 2600M und recht viel Sonne! In Italien hingegen Südstau und ne fette Föhnmauer!

Overall impression
Snow condition
Could definitely be better. The last remnants of snow can be found at around 1800 - 2200 meters, depending on the exposure. Downhill runs are out of the question! Above 2600, however, the snow conditions are mostly good and still fresh (some of it has been converted to build-up).
Snow quality
The higher the better. At the top there is still about 20-30 cm of powder on a pretty solid base! Wind-exposed slopes like Hohtälli-Gant are still to be enjoyed with caution!
Risks
Had a 2! A bit off the slopes, it seemed quite stable! The bigger danger in Zermatt right now is probably crevasses!
Overall impression
All in all, 2 cool days with great pistes. Good conditions in terms of pow will be found at the top almost after every further snowfall or with local knowledge even now. At the bottom, however, there is still a lot missing and it would need one or two massive dumps!
