Since breakfast was a bit more substantial, we set out later than planned, but a ride on the lift saves us the first 700hm. The snow is heavily wind-blown and very hard, but thanks to our late start and the sunny day, we’re able to ascend without crampons. However, over the last 50 to 100 meters of elevation gain, it gets increasingly icy, so we cover the final stretch on foot. At the top, we’re treated to a breathtaking view in every direction. There are four small craters up there, some of which can be explored on foot. Steam is rising everywhere, giving the whole scene a mystical atmosphere. The descent is fun but quite challenging due to the wind-sculpted terrain.
