Snow condition
Although the Kofel is just opposite the Nordkette, the mountains are often worlds apart in terms of snow. It's the same this year, but with so much snow, there's also enough snow on the Kofel to dare to try some variations. Even the parking lot is almost half a meter deep. Freshly added is about 15-20cm. There is also enough snow in the forest to ski treeruns down to the valley.
Snow quality
Super cold powder! In the trees and on the alpine meadows and snowing enough to make it dusty. Very selective above the tree line and, as usual on the Kofel, blown out. The hard ground often comes through properly. Hence the deduction.
Risks
According to the LLB, it was between level 2 and 3, but we didn't see any snow slabs or major avalanches. Above the tree line there are already some signs of wind and the snow is also sometimes affected by the wind. All in all, however, it felt quite manageable in the region.
Overall impression
This year it's even good on the Kofel. The base is good and with fresh snow of this quality it's really fun. Quite blown off at the top, but that's not surprising. Overall quite good and also worth a trip as an alternative to the Gruabn.
