Snow condition

Great snow conditions for the short Karwendel crossing. The gullies are all well filled and there is plenty of snow in the cirques. The descent on the toboggan run in Halltal can be skied to the very end without touching the ground.

Snow quality

Snow quality very dependent on exposure. In north-facing exposures, still good powdery snow, partly with wind influence. Only skied the north and northeast exposures. On the one south-facing ascent, there was little powder on top of a hardpack.

There were already a few avalanche cones to be seen. A small board below the Mandlscharte, another one in the gully up to the Gleirschtaler Brandjoch. We therefore chose the long way around to get to the Gleirschtaler Brandjoch on the flattest route and avoid the steep gully. Most of the snow tended to come down from slopes exposed to the sun. There are huge avalanche cones in the Halltal valley, although they are somewhat older.

Overall impression

Beautiful crossing from Hafelekar via Gleirschtaler Brandjoch and Stempeljoch into Halltal. Solitary tour in a very beautiful landscape and with good snow on the descent. Top day!
