Snow condition
After the snow-free Karwendel valley, you will find a more or less closed snow cover on the north side from around 1400-1500m above sea level. Through the forest and the mountain pines, the ascent and descent are actually still quite good. In the cirques there is a lot of snow. On the mountain, the period of bad weather on Wednesday and Thursday brought a few centimetres (maybe 5cm) of fresh snow. There was more in leeward areas. The summits and ridges (Birkkar and Ödkar peaks) are partly free of snow and are now covered with a nice hiking trail.
Snow quality
The fresh snow from last week had already settled a little today and had a thin cover in places. In places exposed to the sun, the sun had such a strong effect on Saturday that there was already firn. So today we had very good snow and on the various runs and slopes everything from powder, firn, hard snow to rotten snow (with the good conditions prevailing).
Risks
We considered the drifting snow problem to be less relevant. The warming and soaking of the snow cover was also surprisingly low until Sunday afternoon. Quite steep tours in the surrounding area were also skied.
Overall impression
Perfect day and with perfect weather and almost perfect snow
