The amount of snow in the western Karwendel is still great. On our tours there was a mostly closed snow cover from 1200m upwards. On the south side, of course, there is already less in places. I think(!) that there is still a lot of snow for the bike ski tours in the Karwendel valley and the Hinterautal and the approaches would be long.

We were mainly on the south side and found typical spring conditions. It froze through at night from Friday to Saturday as well as Sunday and formed a stable snow cover. So there was a nice mixture of snow types, from hard snow to floating snow. As the snow cover dissolved early on the south side, an early ascent and descent is a must.

Risks

Due to the heat of the last few days, the snow cover is very wet. That's why I would be very cautious about sliding snow and wet snow avalanches.

We had two fantastic days with some fine firn. Unfortunately, the lower downhill meters were already extremely slushy at 9 am.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
