The fresh snow from the WE is still down in the valley. Only the entrance to the Dammkar was a little blown off, otherwise lots of snow and if you didn't have the very latest skis with you, you could ski all the way to the car.

In the Dammkar up to the Bergwachthütte super fluffy powder, further down a light crust, but good to ski (and when I say that, that means something;-)) only hard frozen at the bottom.

Risks

After I had insinuated that I was traveling at my own risk, I was allowed to use the gondola up on skis. The avalanche commission no longer monitors the Dammkar. I had already seen avalanches coming off sunlit rocks on the approach. I chose my descent route accordingly and kept well away from the east faces. Of course, I was out and about with full avalanche equipment including an airbag and two cell phones. A lady in leggings and sneakers walked up the ascent track without anything. The sun and warming temperatures definitely make it dangerous during the course of the day, something that not only skiers but also walkers need to be aware of. Be sure to arrive early, it's already May after all.

Winter is never ending and that's fine with me. :-)
The Karwendelbahn has already been overhauled after the winter season and has started operating in summer. I don't really care whether it's the winter or summer season, the main thing is skiing and then with such great snow conditions, what more could you want?
