From about 1700m on the north side, high above the Rhine Valley, you can speak of a halfway decent snow cover and situation. The Föhn has always given its best here before and after Christmas. 1700m is then not far below the mountain stations. So let's continue hiking...

Incredibly compact. The wind and the warmth before/during the snowfall almost concreted the snow, just about halfway rideable. But had a little too little mm under the bindings on the touring skis.

Risks

The snow was very hard packed, but not too much newer. LLB was a three, although not as sharp as in Mittelbünden/Engadin.

Overall impression

At least a few powder turns again, after the winter at home in the Allgäu has said goodbye for the foreseeable future. There's nowhere here at just under 3000m.... PS: The pictures of the Rhine Valley show the whole malaise. I haven't seen it like this in early January for a long time...

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
