Snow report Northern Norway, 01/15/2016
Finnlandsfjellet auf Kvaløya. Nach fünf Wochen Abstinzenz endlich wieder Skifahren.

Overall impression
Snow condition
A lot better than in December. I would say 30-50 cm for just above sea level and then a good meter at 600 m. You can get down to the sea without any problems. In any case, a very good basis for further snowfall, even in the forest.
Snow quality
Super cold and fluffy in the sheltered forest. That's four stars. Above that, unfortunately, strong winds. Only two stars here because of a very uncomfortable, hard wind cover. Makes 3 stars in the summer
Risks
It was apparently very cold after Christmas and there was fresh snow just a few days ago, so there should already be a thin layer. Snowfall from 11 am today and a very strong northerly wind above the tree line, which has transported a lot of snow. You should therefore exercise extreme caution and stay on flat terrain. Finnlandsfjellet is very well suited for this thanks to consistently below 30 degrees.
Overall impression
Nice short tour to one of Tromsø's immediate local mountains. While the descent at the top was still pretty modest, the conditions below in the forest were great. Next week, Thursday (19.1), the first rays of sunshine are finally expected in Tromsø again, at least for a few seconds, provided the weather cooperates.
