Snow condition

Two of our group of four each had contact with a rock, which was due to the old snow cover that had formed above the tree line with a lot of wind. As a result, places were exposed that were hidden under the fresh snow. If you avoid elevations, however, you can easily get all the way down without touching the ground. Except for the places mentioned, the foundations were solid (at least 50 cm) and on top of that there was about 25 cm of fresh snow

Snow quality

Until 3 days ago it was quite warm, which favored settling processes and created a perfectly soft (only very occasionally harder) layer of old snow. Then since the day before yesterday slow cooling and 25-35cm of cold fresh snow. Wind influence was strong in the ridge and summit area (also today stormy icy cold wind, which ruined the summit lunch), then decreasing to non-existent within 100m down the slope. Super powder summit slope!

2 was spent all over Trollheimen. Old snow seemed very solid, you don't find much drift snow. Relaxed.

Overall impression

What a great day! finally - for the first time this season - just switch off your brain and race, feel the freerider high. All it takes is 2.3 fat bigturns in the 100m steep section. Then you know again that you can put up with all these rather mixed, ice-cold, windy, gray-on-gray tours because there's always a (tiny) chance of these moments, but we also got it really good today: first tracks, (almost) the only ones on the mountain, additional round summit slope, good visibility....Local at the parking lot said that you rarely have such cold snow so close to the coast. We'll continue on Sunday, the forecast is bluebird and it's supposed to stay cold, hopefully the conditions will be preserved until then.euphoric greetings from Trondheim
