[Zentralnorwegen] Japow im Storlidal?!
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Below the 5* forest line from Oppdal, it gets more and more to the west with every kilometer. In Storlidal a good meter at the bottom, more at the top. It was a real dump from last Tuesday to today. Above the tree line there was wind and the snow thickness in old and new snow was very different. therefore only 3* overall.
Snow quality
It doesn't get any better. I ruined my bindings on Saturday and was therefore skiing on the 105 center width of my stone skis - and I was drowning in slopes below 25°: Overnight there was another 20cm topping without wind on a soft layer of deep snow that was also hardly influenced by wind. difficult to say exactly how deep, you could sink your ski pole without any problems. That only applies to the forest! Above that, in sheltered areas, also great snow, but also clear wind influence in open slopes and the beginning of wind cover formation in ridge areas, therefore 1 star deduction.
Risks
We were only out and about in the forest and only rarely steeper than 30°, although the snow in the forest showed almost no wind influence. Leeward slopes further up were certainly extremely loaded. But we couldn't observe any activity, not even on the other side of the valley (very steep, leeward, no skiing).
Overall impression
Extremely low! Very, very awesome day. Just missed the perfect 5 star rating because of the not so great conditions in the high areas. But who goes there on a brilliant treeskiing day PS, in case a (semi-)local is reading this: Would be very grateful for tips on where to get a marker binding repaired/spare parts in Trondheim or Oppdal.
