[Central Norway] Ski tour Fløtatind - soft snow for a short time
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Snow line in all exposures relatively evenly from 500 to 700 m altitude, changes directly from nothing to thick slush, which is good enough for downhill skiing. continuously more towards the top. still fits
Snow quality
The lower half was completely soaked, both the old snow and the thin layer of new snow. From 1200m upwards, the new snow (5-15cm) lay a little drier on the soft, damp old snow and was covered with a light cap
Risks
In addition to many that had already left, we were able to directly observe a smaller wet loose snow slide from a southern expo, as well as an older, massive base avalanche (east). In the Alps, you would say that you should start early. But despite our late start, we didn't do too badly, because in the afternoon our east expo began to radiate noticeably and solidify again (fast slush, unusual, but good to ride). An early start is really too much to ask when the sun is already up at 4am.
Overall impression
Belly-free ascent, fat sunburn, alone on the mountain, first lines in fast cruising snow, only 300m of carrying in the immediate vicinity of the fjord and the Fløtatind a really recommendable touring mountain. Towards summer, Norway makes it hard to say goodbye again. Be careful, tomorrow the almost-still-powder will probably be a solid melting cap all the way up again!
