Snow report Northern Norway, 10/12/2015
Northern Norway! I will definitely be spending this winter in Tromsø. As luck would have it, there should be good ski touring conditions here at times. Unfortunately, there isn't (yet) a dedicated CR spot for Northern Norway, but I think that will change.

Snow condition
After it was unusually sunny and warm all over northern Norway throughout September, there was a small onset of winter on the first weekend in October with snow down to sea level. There was 0.5 to 1 m at 800 m and the first people skied in the Lyngen Alps (->http://www.friflyt.no/Ski/Pudderfest-i-Lyngen-i-helga). However, temperatures have been rising for 2-3 days and, together with a lot of rain, all the snow has already disappeared again...
Snow quality
There was a lot of old snow on the glacier, which held up very well during the relatively cool summer. When we set off at around 12 noon, the whole thing was still pretty frozen.
Risks
There is not enough old snow or not enough fresh snow for avalanches. The danger comes more from insufficiently snow-covered stones and crevasses. During our ascent, however, there was still more than enough old snow and therefore no visible crevasses.
Overall impression
Well, the first ski tour was quite a struggle with endless hiking and climbing. Nevertheless, it was a great start to the 15/16 winter season here in the far north of Norway
