Snow report Oberstdorf, 01/02/2016
So it does work. And now more of it, please!

Snow condition
In the valley (Fellhornbahn) about 10 cm, at the summit about 20-25 cm of fresh snow. On the leeward side, there was about 30 cm of blown-in snow in places. There was pretty much just one leeward slope with a northerly aspect that you could ski relatively safely. The slopes would have been ok in principle if the fresh snow had stuck to them. The valley run was not open, but could be skied with caution.
Snow quality
Quite powdery and good on the aforementioned leeward slope. This is what the rating refers to. But there were also places where there was a slight wind cap. Of course it was difficult on the sunny side in the afternoon, but you couldn't ski there anyway. As I was only out in the afternoon, the slopes were no longer great. The fresh snow holds extremely poorly on the previously existing artificial snow/ice slopes, which meant that everything was actually a mogul slope with alternating soft hills and ice slabs.
Risks
Apart from small cornices on the ridges and smaller snow packs, no observations. Where you can ski, it's not particularly steep and there's not enough snow on the steep parts. Stones and falls are the greatest danger there.
Overall impression
It's balm for the soul to ski on natural snow again and make your first careful turns off-piste. And the weather was beautiful too
