Snow condition
You can ski into the valley in the Allgäu. There about 30-40cm. At 1200m about 60-70 cm then further uphill depending on wind exposure. The whole thing on compact bases.
Snow quality
Very good powder in pure north-facing areas, much better at lower altitudes than further up, where there were huge crystals on the surface that just rustled when cruising through. More wind influence further up, tendency towards light wind cover. On the south side there was some non-supporting hard snow.
Risks
Two above and below. At least there's no old snow problem here - at least not up to around 2200m. However, since last night, the wind has been quite visible and noticeable, producing small drift snow packs all day. On the southern sides, considerable sliding snow cracks are opening up or have already gone down to the bottom.
Overall impression
An absolute top day in quite steep terrain. According to the weather forecast, the good powder conditions should be over from tomorrow - then it's probably time to hit the slopes again, so I made the most of every minute today to round off the dream week since last Thursday.
