Nagelfluh ski tour with surprisingly dusty powder
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Tour possible from 900 m. Descent too. Still pretty good snow depths. Surprisingly good, especially in the forest, since the base has become compact. Especially gullies and hollows in open terrain are well filled. Some areas of terrain have suffered a little due to the brief onset of the foehn over the last few days. Ridges are well snowed in... there are a few stones sticking out very locally. Also often around exposed trees and where the wind has blown through.
Snow quality
Great sleet-grained fresh snow. Rides like sugar. Still really dusty in places. Now very rutted but still very rewarding. Hochrat descent resembles a piste. Towards Falken there are still good first tracks in sugar snow and a perfect slope
Risks
The wind has been working hard and it was still windy today. Even below the tree line in clearings, there were some massive deposits of troebach snow behind the edges of the terrain. I think brittle snow planks are very likely in steep terrain. Even without much additional load!
Overall impression
It is currently worthwhile in all exposures. On the south side it's still powdery if not blown over. In the forest it's also quite good and on the north side there's a fun mix of sleet and snow. Not much hard snow and no ice.
