today it was the turn of the mountains west of the iller. here, as almost always, there tends to be more snow than further east. start at about 800m, enough snow, from pp, for ascent and descent. in the forest rather thin. from 1000m then very good, with about 30cm of fresh snow, on a load-bearing base. in the summit area (about 1800m) often an icy crust under the fresh snow.
Snow quality
on the north side, super light fresh pow all day. perfect to ride. but since there was a significant temperature inversion today, the snow thawed wherever expo-s came into play. this was already clearly noticeable on the descent due to a slight cap. it wasn't quite as much fun to ride.
Risks
the one, below 1800m fits. we triggered some loose snow slides on the descent, in >30° terrain. but these ran out again relatively quickly. drifting snow was also not an issue today, due to the lack of wind. overall quite safe.
Overall impression
Today's 4 because it was simply even better than yesterday.
