Snow report Oberstdorf, 02/23/2021
it's spring - bike&ski season is open!!!
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
is no longer above average for the time of year. there is still enough snow at about 1000m (giebelhaus), but the south side is now snowing out quickly. the descent from the gr. daumen is only possible for a short time. before the engeratsgundalpe you will certainly have to unbuckle several times on the coming winter.
Snow quality
after a rather heavy veil of clouds all day today (i guess about 80% of the sun's rays came through), the conditions were perfect. nowhere on the entire descent did the snow collapse and there was great firn and slush all the way down. the north side remained hard today. it doesn't get any better than this, apart from the fact that the entire descent is flat. in the main run, some of the slopes are even like moguls.
Risks
safe today. the daytime warming was not an issue either, due to the veil of clouds. i'll say that even in the afternoon and on the south side, the one was still predominant.
Overall impression
around 50 bikes at the gable house at 8am during the week is a bit unusual. but there wasn't that much going on at the big thumb.
one star for the snow conditions, the second for the great weather, the third for the great descent to the gable house and the fourth because it finally fits (at least during the week) this winter and the whole thing will probably go on for a while. the laufbacher eck still doesn't get any sun. the schochen only halfway and the gamswanne, only at the top of the entrance.
p.s. riding an e-bike to the giebelhaus is a completely new experience. the road is clear, no ice, and if you arrive electrically, the pp costs nothing ;-)
p.p.s. i'll save myself the fifth star. you still need room for improvement ...
