Snow report Oberstdorf, 02/24/2021
today the little ...
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
perfect, like yesterday. however, the descent is no longer passable today. it's fast in this heat ...
Snow quality
with appropriate timing, i.e. departure around 10.30 am, perfect snow, in all expos with s. everything carries and can be skied completely stress-free. since it is actually still february, all expos, without s, become hard again quite quickly. on the north side, in sections, even pow.
Risks
today was much warmer than yesterday. again these strange veil clouds (probably sahara sand), but today about 90% radiation influence. therefore, from 10.30h already partly deep and no longer carrying. there were also some wet snow slides, but rather small and local, triggered on the descent.the lawi is ok, it was a 2, from about 11h.
Overall impression
only one 3 today. much busier than yesterday. especially at the summit of the thumb (picture 5). there was nothing going on at the small one!!!
picture 1 shows even more bikes than yesterday, at 8am.
if you are still looking for pow you will surely find it in picture 7 ;-), but the return to the valley might be quite tough.
... and then there was the german army, who covered the whole valley with a combat helicopter until lunchtime. hovering at the ridge of the pfannenhölzer, then again at the laufbichl church, then again at the gable. totally annoying, but certainly totally necessary to be able to prove the corresponding flight hours and thus document the defense readiness.
