Snow report Oberstdorf, 03/02/2021

Snow condition

in the bärgündle valley the trail will not snow out so quickly. from giebelhs. enough snow for ascent and descent.

Snow quality

overnight again very good radiation and massive, load-bearing hardpack. in all expos with n, the whole day hard as a rock. today o was very good. descent again around 12.30h. perfectly firned up and silky-soft, noisy slush, right down to the valley. even the relevant wet snow avalanche slab lines can be crossed quickly on the descent, as there are now several well-tracked "downhill tracks".

very safe again. even on the south side it was still snowy on the descent. no gliding snow mouths seen. a few stones came down from south-facing flanks around lunchtime.

Overall impression

another dream day, with dream weather, dream powder snow and almost nothing going on (no helis either), except for a chamois school and a handful of tourers. the many mtbs on the giebelhs. were probably mainly from tourers in the upper valley.
one more note: the head of the bärgüntletal valley only gets some sun in the afternoon, but only in a few places. that means the ascent towards himmeleck is and remains hard as a rock, just like the descent. the gamswanne has been done anyway.
