Snow report Oberstdorf, 03/06/2021
one of the better skiing days this season, - with an announcement !
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
excellent. from pp, in baad (1240m), approx. 10cm pow, on a supporting base. further up, quickly much more. in the summit area, approx. 30cm fresh pow.
Snow quality
the pow fell without much wind and especially cold. very fluffy in the mornings in all expos. from about 11h onwards it was much more difficult in the s-expos, but still very good to ride.
Risks
the vorarlberg lawi was a better fit today. drifting snow was only an issue above 2000m. below that, it's more likely to be fairly poured loose snow slides, which could be triggered mainly on the descent. the fresh snow bonded very poorly with the hard base and slid off easily. from about 10h onwards, there were also many larger loose snow slides in all the sunny expos. with more powerful edging, you always push through to the hard base and the risk of falling mentioned in the lawi is quite justified.
Overall impression
dream day, with perfect weather. sunny and cold. 1st star for that. perfect conditions, with up to 30cm fresh pow, the finest. free choice of lines still possible without restrictions. 2nd star for that. after the 2nd ascent we found a somewhat less frequented area and there was also firstline potential there. 3rd star for that.
however, if you're looking for solitude and ski touring romance, you'll have a hard time finding it in kl. walsertal this season.
forecast for tomorrow: on the sunny side, the fresh snow will have a cap.
