Winter Back
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Brutal how it goes back and forth. Last Saturday was a very nice day with 15 cm of blower almost down to the valley. Then Sunday, Monday Tuesday storm and rain all the way up. Snow all the way down to the valley again since yesterday. On the north side it was green until Tuesday up to at least 1100m, now white again. In the valley there is about 15cm of wet snow, then it goes up quickly, at about 1200hm about 40!cm of new snow, then further uphill. Difficult to say with the storm, I give it 3 stars on the north side due to the large amount of new snow.
Snow quality
Very good storm snow. But only in somewhat wind-protected locations/forest edges/hollows. Exposed areas are free, or are large areas of ice, near the valley the water splashes out of the snow...but today this only affected areas up to approx. 1000m, from then on it's fine. 3 stars for the few good areas.
Risks
From 1800m today a 4, I wasn't there anyway. Zero visibility, storm, icy patches or meter-deep drift snow. If it opens up tomorrow, I'll stay away too. 4 days of gales and fresh snow, forget the big "trips"! If I wanted to kill myself, I'd just have to go up a bit higher and steeper tomorrow, I'm sure it would work after the 3rd ride at the latest. In my opinion, tomorrow will be one of the worst days this winter. Watch out!!!
Overall impression
Little expected, nice ride. April 2nd and felt like the depths of winter in a blizzard.
