Snow report Oberstdorf, 05/06/2019
makes everything new...
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Just enough snow to ski down to the valley on the north side. Up to approx. 1400m, however, without a base. A lot of new snow at the summits, between 30 and 60cm depending on the load. From 1400m it stays good for longer, even in the other exposures you will still find snow for a long time in the typical gullies and gullies.
Snow quality
Really good, very good at the top at 1800m, damp at the bottom. 3 stars on average.
Risks
Massive loads, difficult to assess. High alpine certainly much more critical. No self-triggering seen at medium altitudes today. Hochgrat Nord seemed quite safe to me on the chosen central ridge.
Overall impression
4 stars because I have never been able to ski from the Hochgrat summit to the valley in May, and that with consistently good snow and just at the right time in the sunshine.
