Excursion to the last Allgäu glacier
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
From Oberstdorf by bike to Einödsbach. Continue on foot to the Walterberger Haus. Shortly above closed snow cover. In general, there is only snow on the north side above 2000 to 2200 meters.
Snow quality
Nice summer snow, great for skiing with Figl / short skis. Ski tourers were also still out and about.
Risks
No danger of avalanches. The remains of the massive avalanches that had occurred there during the winter were still piled up meters high in the approach through the Bacherloch. The danger of thunderstorms from midday was greater. It is also advisable to take crampons for the snow fields.
Overall impression
Beautiful long tour over the last Allgäu glacier - the Schwarzmilzferner - on to Mädelegabel and back again. Descents with Figl / short skis over old snow fields.
