Snow report Oberstdorf, 12/23/2017
Slushy snow, hard snow and powder on the Nebelhorn
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
On the Nebelhorn there is currently quite a lot of snow, snow depth on the mountain approx. 160cm. In the valley it's still white and you can get down, but yesterday it rained quite heavily in the Allgäu. The rain went up to about 1700m. If it stays as warm as announced, it should get worse quickly.
Snow quality
Up to 1700m, the snow cover is pretty soggy, above that it gets better, but there is usually a layer of hard snow. There is only a little powder in a few places at the summit.
Risks
According to the LLB warning level 2, there are quite a few fish mouths to be seen and there were also some smaller spontaneous slides today. Sliding snow slides must be expected at low altitudes, especially if it stays this warm now.
Overall impression
Technically, it wouldn't really have been worth it today, but the weather cleared up at the end, so it was enough to enjoy a bit of sunshine and skiing.
